Making A Reservation

Once your veterinarian establishes referral contact and we receive all the laboratory data and medical history, you can make a reservation for your cat by stopping by our office or calling 704-948-8917 to schedule treatment. Placement is on a first come first served basis. A deposit is required at the time reservations are made. This deposit is refundable only up to three days prior to the scheduled treatment day. The balance of the treatment fee is due at admission.

The cost for treatment does not include treating of external parasites such as fleas, or any laboratory testing not completed prior to admission. There is an additional charge for boarding in our facility beyond the Thursday discharge date.

Required Information

Picture
It’s important to talk to your own veterinarian to determine if your cat is a candidate for treatment at T4Paws. We are only able to assist cats that are medically stable. To determine this, your veterinarian may suggest additional tests such as ECGs, cardiac ultrasound and radiographic imaging. For some cats, these tests will aid your doctor’s ongoing medical management and determine if your cat is a good candidate for the required two night stay in our nuclear medicine facility.

Vaccination History

All cats must have a current rabies vaccine and have received at least three feline distemper vaccines prior to eight years of age.

Physical Exam Form

A physical exam form with detailed notes must be completed by your veterinarian. This form, along with required laboratory data should be mailed to our office or faxed to 704-948-6361.

Laboratory Tests

- Complete blood count (performed within 30 days of admission)

- Serum chemistry panel with T-4 levels (performed within 30 days of admission)

- Urinalysis (performed within 30 days of admission)

Before Arriving

If your cat is currently taking the anti-thyroid drug Methimazole (Felimazole or Tapazole®), you must discontinue use of this medication five days prior to admission. Also, remember to bring your signed discharge instructions on admission day. This form will be mailed to you in advance.

The Day of Admission

At 8:00 am on the Tuesday morning of the treatment week, we hold a collective admissions interview with all clients. This is your chance to meet our doctors and staff that will be caring for your cat. At this time, we will review in detail the basis for iodine therapy, our treatment protocol, your cat’s daily routine and discharge instructions. This meeting will last about an hour. If you are unable to attend this 8:00 am meeting, other arrangements must be made in advance.

Cat Carriers

All cats MUST arrive in a durable car carrier made of hard plastic. We WILL NOT admit cats transported in cardboard carriers, soft carriers, pillowcases or carried freely.

Feeding

During your cat’s stay, we will provide Iams® Low Residue cat food. If your cat has a prescription diet or requires a special brand of commercial cat food, please bring it on the day of admission and place it in zip lock bags, pre-measured into daily portions and labeled with your cat’s name.

Housing & Bedding

Your cat will be housed in Snyder brand cottages while staying at our facility. Bedding will be provided. You may provide special bedding or toys for your cat, but regulations prevent us from returning those to you.

Discharge

Picture
Thursday of the treatment week, all cats will have their radiation level surveyed prior to discharge. We discharge all cats between 2:00 and 4:00PM unless other arrangements are made. At that time, we will review your cat’s stay with us. A copy of the medical record will be mailed to you and your veterinarian the following week. There is an extended release protocol available. Our staff can discuss whether this option is right for you.

Follow-up Care

T4 Paws is a treatment service and not a substitute for your veterinarian’s primary care. Therefore, it is important that your regular veterinarian provide necessary follow-up care. We recommend that your cat’s serum T-4 levels be evaluated at 30 and 90 days after treatment. A comprehensive post-treatment evaluation should be performed and serum chemistry levels should also be checked.
